Terminus 2008, has announced two of its Guests of Honor, Cheryl Klein, U.S. Continuity Editor for the Harry Potter series and Tamora Pierce, New York Times-bestselling author of YA fantasy books. Terminus does Gust of Honor events differently from other cons, in that they don’t include keynote addresses in the con fee, so only people who are interested in the guests pay for the guests. Each Keynote presentation comes with a sit down meal. Pierce will be speaking on “The Changing Face of Fantasy Literature” and Klein will be speaking on “Lessons from the Harry Potter Series.” Each keynote is $40 for Terminus attendees. Despite the fact that one of the keynotes is at 8am, tickets have been selling quite briskly.

Arthur C. Clarke, author of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and dozens of novels, short story collections and works of non-fiction has died at a hospital near his home in Sri Lanka. In addition to his creative achievements, he is generally credited with the introduction of the idea for communication satellites, an odd claim to fame he wrote about in a 1965 essay, “How I Lost a Billion Dollars in My Spare Time.” Knighted in 1998, Clarke was also a television commentator during several of the Apollo missions, and often said that he felt the “golden age” of space travel was just beginning. Arthur C. Clarke was 90.

Perhaps the best thing about this shiny little steampunk Dalek is the discussion amongst Brass Goggles users about what the piston on the side is or isn’t for. Also, one of the key components of the model is a Dalek-shaped bubble-bath bottle. There is Dalek-shaped bubble-bath. I am trying to get my brain around that and am failing! Who is buying that? What marketing dude thought it would sell? Someone please explain this to me!
