While I was shaken to hear of the passing of George Carlin, a compounded sadness swept over me to learn that Stan Winston’s funeral was held over the weekend. Winston is a cult celebrity among any over-eager fan of ”Aliens,” “Terminator 2″ and “Jurassic Park,” the films for which his effects work won Oscars, however his work has been seen most recently in “Iron Man.” Aficionados will also remember Winston for “Starman,” “The Island of Dr Moreau,” and “John Carpenter’s The Thing.” Winston even took a turn at directing such features as “Pumpkinhead” and the “T2 3-D” attraction at Universal Studios in Orlando. We at Illusion mourn the passing of these two unforgettable entertainers.
