The film version of the seventh and last Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be released as two films. While the rumor on this had been floating around since almost immediately after the book’s release, confirmation on this finally came this past week. Fans are split on the matter, with some relieved that the films might finally do justice to complex secondary characters like Snape and Dumbledore, while others fear that one of the movies will just be the visual version of that 200 page chunk of Deathly Hallows where Harry, Ron and Hermione are wanding around England being rained on and getting irritated with each other. Either way, this news at least ensures the strength of the Harry Potter fandom through the 2011 release date for the second film.

I dunno, this two film thing seems to me like the producers are only seeing dollar signs. Ever since book four, people have thought that these books needed to be made into 2 films to do justice to the material, and yet they’ve never been interested in doing that. And while Hallows packs a lot of punch, I don’t think it’s nearly nearly as necessary to make two movies out of it, versus some of the other books.
