Well, this one, I admit is not new news and I’m sorry and a little surprised I didn’t hear about this earlier, but according to Dreamwatch, Star Trek Voyager’s Robert Picardo is set to take command of Stargate: Atlantis for season 5. Personally, I’m excited. Though Voyager wasn’t one of my favourite Trek shows, Picardo’s a really great actor, and I think the dynamic that his character Robert Woolsey will bring will be very interesting. Look out, Atlantis!

I’m happy about Robert Picardo, though it means Amanda Tapping is stepping down. She’ll be working on her new show Sanctuary, but I’ll be able to catch her as Samantha Carter in The Ark of Truth on March 11th at least. There’s more info on both shows and a web featurette about AoT on the MGM site: http://stargate.mgm.com/

Hi Shiromi:
I agree that Robert Picardo is a good actor but don’t you think that it is a bit beyond belief that he is the one selected to take over as leader of Atlantis?
He has repeatedly made terrible mistakes and choices in the past on both SG-1 and on Atlantis, as well as being universally disliked by most of the Stargate personnel. So why would the powers that be choose him to lead?
And why is Shepherd not the one that is chosen, considering that he has been there from the very start and knows everyone and everything about Atlantis?
I do know from other people who have posted on the subject that fans are rather disappointed by this cast change on the show.
Be well and always….
HAVE A VERY STAGATE DAY! :-))

I will definitely miss Amanda Tapping as well, but I still think that Woolsey will be an *interesting* choice. Bureaucracy being the way it is, the fact that he’s made some questionable decisions in the past, doesn’t make it unlikely that he could be put in charge of Atlantis. My husband’s just finishing 20 years in the Air Force and he can attest to the fact that the selection of leadership can sometimes be very poorly made.

I’m happy he will not be always remminded that we must state the nature of the medical emergency. He is still a good spokesperson for the Planetary Society. Next year, 2009 is the IYA, the International Year of Astronomy.

I dunno, I think his turn as the Doctor was one of the best things about Voyager. But I didn’t realise that he’s the spokesperson for the Planetary Society! Boy am I out of the loop. Thanks for the info, George!
