Roy Scheider’s passing was a piece of news I could have gone without seeing this morning. Scheider is obviously best remembered for “Jaws,” “The French Connection” and “”Marathon Man,” but I also think we’d be remiss in ignoring his run on “SeaQuest DSV,” or his relatively recent cameo on “Family Guy.” Scheider was a great actor, I mean you wouldn’t have bought that rubber mechanical shark if you didn’t have his reactions selling you on it, but he was also a celebrity who had the ability to laugh at himself, which seems to be a rare gift. He left a lasting impression on American cinema that will not go unappreciated.
