The Weinstein Company has joined the growing list of production companies to make independent agreements with the WGA in order to bring striking writers back to work. David Letterman’s Worldwide Pants Inc and United Artists have led the industry in negotiating individual deals to bring writers back to projects.
Ah, finally! The guys who helped bring us “Grindhouse” and “TMNT” are back in business. It doesn’t sound like a lot now, but the studios that are holding back on dealing with the WGA are going to start feeling a lot of pressure as individual studios start swallowing their pride. The longer the rest of the studios hold out, the further behind they’ll be when the production cycle catches up to them. I’m not about to hold my breath, but it does look like there’s a clear path for this strike to end.
