2008 is clearly going to be a very good year for cons in the Northeast. Not only am I ridiculously excited for this year’s Lunacon (you may just see a poll from me about my costuming for its rumored Longest Night Ball), but I-Con at Stony Brook also looks like it is shaping up to be excellent. Author guests include Elizabeth Bear and Norman Spinrad among many others. With 6,500 attendees this one may well be the place to be.

Con #27 is the last one that will be at Stony Brook. The school has slated a building called the ISC (Indoor Sports Complex) for a 2 year rehab. It is my understanding that the Seawolves (basketball) are joining the Southern Confrence and the school wants this building to look nice and pretty for TV. Without the ISC, I-CON has no place for it’s Dealer’s Room or Art Show. In early 2007, the BOD (Board of Directors)and the general staff had a secret meeting at The Holiday Inn in Ronkonkoma. (I know this because I was there.)Now that’s it’s February of 2008, there *may* have been a decision of what the new venue will be, but the BOD has not released it yet. Other events: I-CON has officially moved out of the 031 room in the basement of the SB Union. That room is now strictly for the Campus Chapter. The new office is 20 Peachtree Court, Holbrook, NY, suite 103J. The new office will require a real key that only members of the BOD will have. The 031 room had a Cypherlock that only required a three digit code on a keypad. That too is going to vanish. During the mid winter break, regular meetings could not be held on campus. They were being held at Brothers Grimm Games, on Middle Country Road. Now, were back in our regular spot. Room 236, Union, 7:30 PM. This will be the normal meeting room until the con. Sorry I didn’t give my real name. More will come as we get closer to the con.
