I’m getting tired of explaining to people why SF/F literature actually matters. Luckily, this week I don’t have to write another screed about it, because Clive Thompson over on Wired.com has been eloquent about it instead, in his piece on “Why Sci-fi is the Last Bastion of Philosophical Writing.” The piece mentions some fascinating current work and also talks about the debt literary fiction writers straying into the speculative owe to books with “embossed dragons” on their covers.
