Producers of the 22nd James Bond movie (and Daniel Craig’s second turn as the master spy) have announced the closely-guarded title: “Quantum of Solace.” The title is taken from a short story which was part of Ian Fleming’s “For Your Eyes Only” compilation. The story features Bond as a very bored guest at a dinner party where a story is told and very little action occurs, in fact the story itself suggests that the high-octane drama that is Bond’s life pales in comparison to the drama “real” people experience on a daily basis. No word yet on what role the original story’s events will play in the film, however producers did reveal the early part of the feature will involve Bond’s quest for revenge following the death of Vesper Lynd.
The title’s a little odd, but I think that’s in keeping with the franchise’s recent “back-to-basics” approach. I was never as much a fan of the film series as I am a fan of Ian Fleming’s James Bond, a character which Craig portrays naturally. I can’t imagine how the writers might link the story to the film, but I look forward to finding out if the producers can raise the bar any higher after “Casino Royale.”
