At the recent U.N. Climate Conference entrepreneur Kevin Reed, and partners, announced plans to build a space-based solar energy hub which would be able to power nearly 1000 homes. The solar technology would be able to capture the sun’s rays at 8x their earthbound strength. One prospect for the site of this experiment is the island chain of Palau. The project, when fully realized, would cost $800m and be capable of delivering power by 2012.
