Well, the Village Voice briefly but enthusiastically recommended The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep as a first-class children’s movie. And, truthfully, one of the best things about going to the theater to see the exposition heavy, sometimes sludge paced The Golden Compass was getting to watch the trailer for The Water Horse. Featuring a unreasonably cute creature– a water horse from Scottish folklore–that hatches from an egg found on a beach by a little boy, I was charmed pretty quickly by the preview for the film, so I’ve got faith in the Village Voice’s recommendation. As it’s a flick that’s obviously kid-oriented, the whole movie may turn out to be more syrupy than one would want but I’ll certainly check it out.
