Waxing Lyrical About Pushing DaisiesOh dear. Being that this series is already into its, what? Seventh episode? I am woefully behind on watching this show. Not helped, mind you, by the fact that ABC’s website has already dropped the first couple of episodes from its website, making watching it from the beginning, that much more difficult. Come on ABC, I know that you guys don’t believe that you make any money from the internet, but how do you expect people to get into your show mid way if they can’t watch it from the beginning on your website? A lot of people told me to watch this show but do I really need another show to be obsessive about? Not really. Although, hearing that not only was it from Bryan Fuller, the creator of Dead Like Me, but that the premise stemmed from an idea that was going to be used on Dead Like Me, I had to watch it. And what I have seen of it so far, I like, a lot: Its use of color, Jim Dale’s fairytale-like narration; the overall Tim Burton-style quirkiness of the show… Yes, I realize I’m probably preaching to the converted when I talk about this show, but I have to say something. And for those that have yet to watch it, all I can do is chime in and say that it’s really worth you time.

I like it, too, but after several episodes there are many moments that lapse into over-quirkified schmaltz. This I do not dig. But the show is still solid, nonetheless.

And don’t fret about the net (eek, did I just say that?). I too checkout my television shows online. ABC and NBC load in only a handful of the most recent shows at a time; Fox and CBS keep them all up, which is swell.

I’m only about halfway through the aired episodes so far, but I see what you mean. One wonders how long they can keep up the quirkiness before viewers lose interest. Although Northern Exposure kept up its brand of weirdness for five years, I think. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

I love it too - but agree it has on occasion gone for the schmaltz. This may be a difficult
premise to keep up for long but I think there are still a few stories that could feature Olive or the Aunts. For those of you who love our poor
hero check out the DVD of the short lived WonderFalls. Also quirky and weird only about
4 episodes aired but all are available on DVD
