I had a comment from Racheline regarding some of the reasons behind Torchwood’s clunky storytelling. She made the point that part of the reason it feels like the stories are a little thin is because episodes are cut on BBC America to fill commercial space which they don’t have in the UK. This is very true, most episodes do suffer from cuts. I did honestly try to find out how many minutes were cut, but the original episode lengths vary. Suffice it to say that those precious few minutes can seriously affect the storytelling process. That said, I think it’s interesting that Dr Who suffers from the same sorts of cuts on the Sci Fi Channel but doesn’t seem as affected by them. Additionally, enough friends and critics in England have had similar problems with the disjointed plotlines hinting that it may be more of a problem than just that the episodes were cut for US viewers. That said, we shall be able to decide for ourselves, when Torchwood Season One DVDs comes out on January 22nd.
