Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse

Joss Whedon is getting together with Eliza Dushkuto make a new series called “Dollhouse” for Fox.  Whedon has one of the strongest cult followings of any TV creator thanks to “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel“ and “Firefly,” but had decided to stick with feature films, like “Serenity,” after his last series was cancelled.  The plot of the show centers around a secret organization that programs agents with a different personality for each assignment, then mind-wipes them after the mission is complete and stores them in a facility called “The Dollhouse.”  Dushku plays one of these agents, Echo, who becomes aware of her situation and tries to find out the truth about her past.

I enjoy Joss Whedon as much as the next guy, but isn’t this the Winter Soldier storyline from recent Captain America books?  The setting and characters are different, but the premise is the same.  That said, the show will probably be great and I’m putting out the call right now that if you enjoyed any of Whedon’s previous work, please take the time when this show comes out to watch it.  If the viewership isn’t strong enough and it gets cancelled, we have no one to blame but ourselves this time.  There’s plenty of time to form a mass movement, though.  According to Whedon, if this writer’s guild strike happens, he’s striking with them.  In any case, I’m stoked to hear there may be another Whedon series in the works.
