Most of the articles I’m reading on this release talk about how disappointed the fans are that Rowling isn’t issuing this book to the world, but somewhere in all this no one is stating the obvious: more copies of the book will be printed. This has been a common practice among authors since the word “bestseller” entered the English lexicon. Occasionally they write something special, publish just a few copies, and then when the super-collectible items have been distributed, mass-publish it. If Rowling had a few million copies of “Beedle the Bard” published tomorrow, then she couldn’t sell a single copy of it for $60,000+. For parents whose kids are deeply saddened by Rowling’s regrettable decision to do a small printing of “The Tales of Beedle the Bard,” I would recommend using this opportunity to teach your children a little virtue called “patience.”

I may be reacting too soon but this point I am surprised and dissapointed that J.K. has chosen to exclude the fans, the people who bought her books. This seems very elitist. It was also a poor way to raise money for charity as it has raised much less than it would have if published. But I may be reacting too soon. These special copies could have been distributed and the books published also. This would have provided valuable and special copies to those who received them and served the fans and charity. This may be the plan, but that has not been said so far, so I wonder.
