I tell ya, folks. Nintendo’s getting me excited this year. According to this Times Online article (click on the picture), women in Japan comprise 51% of Wii users and 53% of DS users. This is hardly news to me. My girlfriend and I both have DSes, and she’s gotten a lot more mileage out of hers than I have. Nintendo plans to gear their marketing toward this demographic. December 1st in Japan will see the release of a new floor sensor device called the Wii Fit which guides players through yoga and balancing routines. As someone who once purchased the Sega Activator, I’m very interested to see if this system can live up to the hype. Nintendo is also offering a game which simulates musical instruments, which could be a smart way to capitalize on the “Guitar Hero” craze. I’m looking forward to the upcoming release of “Super Smash Bros. Brawl,” so we can finally answer the question of who would win in a fight: Mario or Sonic. But according to yesterday’s press conference, Sonic and Mario will be teaming up in a game set around the Beijing Olympics. I think we already know who would win in a foot race, but if pizza eating becomes an Olympic event by 2008, Sonic’s in for the challenge of his career.
