Government Communications Headquarters, or GCHQ, is a British surveillance service that is putting advertisements in British copies of Xbox 360 games like “Splinter Cell: Double Agent” and “Enemy Territory: Quake Wars.” The intention is to attract gamers with an interest in IT. Not only is this one of the best examples I have ever heard of a company targeting the right demographic, but this is like a more boring version of “The Last Starfighter.” Just imagine playing Xbox 360 one minute and the next thing you know the phone is ringing and they want you to come work for the CIA. It’s not quite there yet, but if this program is successful, you can just imagine the string of government agency-branded games you’re going to start seeing in the next few years.
