Illusion’s online editors have compiled the first annual “Best of the Sci-Fi Life” List. We’ve broken down the best and brightest of 2007 in the following categories: Alternate Reality Games, Video Games, Records, Books, Graphic Novels, Fashion Houses, Vinyl, Movies, Retailers and Home Video Releases.
BEST ALTERNATE REALITY GAME: 1-18-08

SLUSHO! WE’VE GOT THE FLAVA! The mysterious campaign used by J.J. Abrams to promote the (as yet) unreleased film Cloverfield was all the buzz on the ARG circuit this summer. The best part is… no one really figured anything out! The debate is still rolling on with only a few weeks until the release of the giant monster romp. Starting with the ambiguous trailer shown in front of Transformers and continuing on websites like slusho.jp we’re all left to wonder why can’t drink just six.
BEST VINYL: Ningyo Project Gosho Dolls

This year Super Rad Toys brought reimagined the traditional Gosho Doll Munny style. The results were some spectacular paints and sculpts from top designers like Dalek. The originality of this cross-cultural genre bending makes the Ningyo Gosho our Vinyl of the year.
BEST GRAPHIC NOVEL: Laika by Nick Abadzis

Nick Abadzis, a 2000A.D. alum, takes us on a semi-historical account of the life of the first cosmonaut… Laika, the abandoned shelter dog. This heartbreaking story is told with love and masterful attention to detail. The art is stunning and the story is so moving that we dare you not to shed a tear during Laika’s doomed real-life voyage. From First Second.
BEST MOVIE: Sunshine

Danny Boyle’s solar epic drops us right in to the middle of a last chance mission for Earth’s future. The slick production design and understated performances make this movie a must see for any sci-fi fan. With its hypnotic pacing Sunshine brings a quiet contemplation back to the genre.
