Ruby Rocket: Fan Girl
Ruby Rocket, one of the most noticeable cosplay models in all of geekdom and professional burlesque performer, took the time to talk with Illusion’s own Caitlyn Darr and become the most recent Illusion Fan Girl.

CD: What are the advantages to being delightfully short?
RR:It was easy to find a boyfriend taller than me.
CD: Is it strange or uncomfortable looking on message boards and finding comments men have left about your…um…..anatomy?
RR: It can be at times. Some people get rather descriptive. For the most part, it’s just normal “guy banter”, though. And it’s not always guys!
CD: Congrats on winning the Marvel Halloween costume contest. You have several costumes based on Marvel characters, what made you decide to enter as Phoenix?
RR: Thanks a bunch! I actually entered Phoenix because I had previously entered my other Marvel costumes into another contest, and the rules with Marvel had stated you couldn’t enter your costume if it had been entered into something else. It also encouraged voters to vote on the overall impact of the photo, and I believe that to be mo strongest photo, currently.
CD: You have quite a pull list. What’s your favorite comic right now?
RR: New Avengers is always great. I also really did Mouse Guard and Birds of Prey. My all time favorite recent comic was Nextwave, though, and I’ll keep whining about it until Marvel brings it back!

CD: Any recent storylines got your goat?
RR: I hate to admit, but I’m a few weeks behind on books. We only get our comics shipped to us once a month, so I always have a lot of catching up to do. The New Avengers storylines are always awesome, though.
CD: I’m putting together a Top Twenty episode on the sexiest superheroes that will air in January. You’re somewhat of an expert on the subject-who’s your pick for foxiest male and female cape?

RR: Hmm, let’s see. Sexiest females - Starfire (DC) and Black Widow (Marvel). Sexiest males - Blackbolt (Marvel) and Black Adam (DC). Yeah, yeah, I know my male choices are odd, but I totally have comic book crushes on them. Guess I like those strong, silent, brooding types (and for my women to ooze sex appeal)!
CD: On your myspace page you state you have an affinity for pigs, stuffed and otherwise. Care to elaborate?
RR: I honestly don’t know what it is. Maybe it’s just that cartoon style pigs are done so cutely that I can’t resist them. Honestly, I’m not a fan of pigs in real life, unless they’re babies. I’m going to blame Jhonen Vasquez and his pigs in Invader Zim for getting me stuck on them!
CD: When will we be seeing the Ruby Rocket comic book?
RR: The book’s been put on the backburner indefinitely. There are a lot of projects I’m working on currently that take precedence.
CD: Many of the characters you portray are redheads like yourself. As a fellow redhead I’d love to know who your favorite flame haired heroine is.
RR: Phoenix or Batgirl, definitely. Brains and beauty - you can’t go wrong.
